Golden AcreThis hardy, vigorous and delicious crop is easy to grow and ideal for small and large gardens. Heads of Golden Acre cabbage are hard, dense, round, sweet. It is a fast-growing cabbage variety, reaching 3-4 pounds.
Culture: Sow in full sun in fertile well-drained soil. Can be started indoors and transplanted outdoors when plants are 1 or 2 months old. Harvest: Between 60-100 Nutrition: Low in calories and contains Vitamin C and Calcium. Seed Saving: Late in the fall, mulch at least six different cabbage plants to ensure genetic diversity. If the climate is cold, digging up the entire plant and storing it over the winter will be necessary - keep it in moist sand at a temperature of about 40 degrees F. Replant 4-6 weeks before the last spring frost. If the heads are still firm, cut a deep X in the top to provide an easier exit for the stem. The stem will grow about 4-5' tall, with many four-petaled yellow flowers. Allow the flowers to mature; when the seed pods form, pick them and allow them to dry. Remove them from the pods and store them in a dry, cool place for up to five years. Notes:

CategoriesFDL Seed Library
The FDL Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that you can borrow to plant and grow at home. By saving seeds as a community we help create local seed stocks that are better acclimated to our climate and which support an abundant and genetically diverse landscape.
We ask that seeds are “returned” by harvesting seeds from a plant or two that you grow. Donated seeds will help to add diversity to our collection. Archives
