Green ArrowGreen Arrow is a shelling pea variety, which means is its pods should be allowed to grow to maturity before being harvested, then the shells should be removed and only the peas are inside eaten. At their biggest, these pods grow to about 5" (13 cm) in length, with 10-11 peas inside. Culture: Peas are a cool-season crop, easy to grow, and very quick to harvest. Sow the seeds outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring (1-2 weeks before the last anticipated frost date is a good rule of thumb). Direct-sow seeds 1"-2" apart and 1"-1 1/2" deeps. Harvest: Peas should be just about ready for harvest 3 weeks after the flowers appear. Shelling Peas are ready when the pods have swelled and are nearly cylindrical in shape. Seed Saving: To save seed from garden peas, let the pods mature fully on the vine; they will turn brown, and the peas should rattle inside when they have dried completely. Pick them individually, or pull the entire plant and hang it upside down in a warm, dry location to finish drying. Shell the peas after 1-2 weeks of drying. Store seeds in a cool, dry place for up to three years. Notes:

CategoriesFDL Seed Library
The FDL Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that you can borrow to plant and grow at home. By saving seeds as a community we help create local seed stocks that are better acclimated to our climate and which support an abundant and genetically diverse landscape.
We ask that seeds are “returned” by harvesting seeds from a plant or two that you grow. Donated seeds will help to add diversity to our collection. Archives
