Bloomsdale LongstandingThis quick-growing, heavy-yielding, hardy spinach matures in about 48 days. Its longstanding ability before forming seeds stalks makes it better for late spring or summer crops. The leaves are crumpled, very thick, deep glossy green, tender, and highly blight resistant. Fine quality and cold hardy.
Culture: Sow after all danger of frost has passed, or may be started indoors and transplanted. Does best in sandy soil. Once established plants are drought tolerant but will produce a better crop if watered during dry weather. Harvest: The tip of the shoots can be pinched out and used when about 3" (7.5 cm) long. Tender shoots and leaves may be eaten raw or cooked as you would any greens. Nutrition: Fat and cholesterol-free, low in calories. High in vitamins A, B, C, and Iron. Seed Saving: Long days and warm temperatures will cause the plant to send up a flowering stalk. The seed pods will be mature soon after the leaves of the plant turn yellow. The entire plant can be pulled to dry in a protected location or left to dry outdoors if the weather is agreeable. Strip the pods from the stalk by running your hands up and down its length. Remove the dried leaves and other debris from the pods. The prickly pod can be removed or it can be planted just as it is. Store seeds in a cool, dry place for up to three years. Notes:

CategoriesFDL Seed Library
The FDL Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that you can borrow to plant and grow at home. By saving seeds as a community we help create local seed stocks that are better acclimated to our climate and which support an abundant and genetically diverse landscape.
We ask that seeds are “returned” by harvesting seeds from a plant or two that you grow. Donated seeds will help to add diversity to our collection. Archives
